All applicants are required to take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE General), with a minimum score of 145 on each section under the new scoring system, and a higher score in the relevant field of study.

Applications are accepted every year starting in November, with the deadline typically falling around February. The review and interview process continues through August, and results are announced in mid-September.

Once selected, the submission and placement process with the university goes on until February, followed by visa interviews, which take place until June. Departure to the U.S. begins in July and varies depending on each university’s reporting dates.

Pakistani citizens with strong academic backgrounds, who are currently living in Pakistan and are committed to returning to serve the country, are encouraged to apply.

Applications are welcome from all disciplines except clinical medicine. Those specializing in energy, water, agriculture, health, education, environment, and climate change are especially encouraged to apply.

For Master’s programs, applicants should have a four-year Bachelor’s degree or a combination of Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees (16 years of formal education).

To apply for a PhD program, you need to have a Master’s degree, an M.Phil., or an equivalent qualification, which typically means 18 years of formal education, from a recognized university.

Fluency in spoken and written English is crucial, and the Duolingo Test of English is mandatory for all shortlisted candidates.

Applicants should be ready to complete their grants without bringing dependents, if necessary.

Ineligibility for Free study in USA Under uSEFP

Individuals who have dual citizenship in both the U.S. and Pakistan, or those who have a spouse, parent, or adult child who is a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

Employees or contractors of the Fulbright organization, the U.S. Department of State, or USAID, as well as their spouses, children, siblings, dependents, and parents.

Those who have already received a Fulbright award for any degree program.

People who are currently studying in the U.S. or who hold a work, residence, or student visa in any country.

How to Apply for USEFP Scholarshiip

Three reference letters.

A GRE score report.

Scanned transcripts with an explanation of the university’s grading scale. While it’s best to include HEC-attested documents, degree and transcripts attested by the issuing authority are also acceptable.

Please remember that incomplete applications will not be considered. Make sure to submit your application, along with references and all required documents, online. Paper applications will not be accepted.

Note: Successful candidates must sign an agreement with USEFP. Additionally, PhD candidates must sign a bond with the Higher Education Commission (HEC), committing to return to Pakistan immediately after their U.S. program and serve the country for a duration equal to their scholarship period.
